Where each assistant fits

Buyer fit, strengths and weaknesses are editorial judgments based on the documented features below.

Best starting pointMixed everyday work

A broad mix of writing, images, research and data tasks.

[2]
Document-centred work

Projects and artifacts suit iterative documents and interactive outputs.

[4][5]
Google-connected work

Consider it when Gmail, Docs and Sheets already shape your day.

[6]
Main strengthVaried tools in one place

Switch between conversation, files, analysis and creative tasks.

[2]
Persistent project context

Keep reference material and project instructions alongside related chats.

[4]
Workspace connections

Paid bundles combine assistant access with selected Google app features.

[6]
Main weaknessLimits still apply

Paying for Plus does not remove all message or tool limits.

[1]
Plan-dependent access

Research and advanced work features depend on the subscription.

[3]
Eligibility varies

Account, region and plan can affect which bundled features you receive.

[6]
Learning curveStart with a chat

Choose a tool deliberately when the task needs browsing or analysis.

[2]
Chat, then a project

Add reusable instructions and files for recurring work.

[4]
Chat, then connect apps

Review permissions before using personal or workplace information.

[8]
Choose another option if…You need fixed usage

A variable consumer allowance is unsuitable for guaranteed automation throughput.

[1]
You mainly need Google apps

Compare the convenience of Gemini inside your existing work environment.

[6]
You want a neutral workspace

Assess whether the Google bundle adds value to your actual workflow.

[6]

Build reusable documents

Artifacts give substantial outputs a dedicated workspace.

[5]
Write where you work

Eligible plans add assistance in Google Docs and Gmail.

[3][5]
Multimodal features

[6]

Context, orchestration & efficiency

An assistant subscription is not a fixed-capacity automation service. We have not measured a token-efficiency or task-quality winner.

Reusable contextProjects and memory

Group related chats and files; memory is configurable.

[2]
Projects and instructions

Maintain knowledge for a topic rather than repeating the same briefing.

[4]
Saved instructions and apps

Personalization and connected-app data depend on settings.

[8]
Task orchestrationResearch and scheduled tasks

Use supported task tools; availability depends on your account.

[2]
Hand-off and scheduling

Paid plans list delegated work and scheduled tasks.

[3]
Research and connected work

Deep Research coordinates retrieval; connected apps expand available context.

[7][8]
External actionsCheck tool permissions

A chat response alone is not proof an external action succeeded.

[2]
Check connected tools

Confirm access and inspect the resulting document or action.

[3]
Review connected-app access

Data may be exchanged with connected services under their terms.

A fair efficiency testCount retries and review

Use the same task, files and acceptance checklist across all three.

Count retries and review

A shorter answer is not necessarily a cheaper successful outcome.

Count retries and review

Record plan limits, elapsed time and corrections as well as success.

Pricing, limits & buying checks

US reference prices below exclude promotions. Local currency prices and tax treatment may differ; confirm the total at checkout.

A bundle benefit is not unlimited Gemini API use.

[6]
Privacy buying checkReview data controls

Check plan terms before uploading sensitive business material.

[1]
Individual vs business terms

Consumer opt-out and business defaults are not interchangeable.

[3]
Review activity settings

Check retention, human review and connected-app policies.

[8]

Make the choice practical

Try one real task before subscribing

Give each assistant the same short brief and a non-sensitive spreadsheet. Ask for a one-page recommendation, three checked sources and a chart. Compare factual errors, edits needed, time to finish and whether you reached a limit. This is a suggested evaluation, not a test we have performed.

Frequently asked questions

Which assistant is best overall?

There is no universal winner here. Start with ChatGPT for a broad tool mix, consider Claude for project-based document work, and Gemini for Google-connected workflows. These are editorial fit judgments, not benchmark rankings.

Which uses the fewest tokens?

We have not measured that. Consumer plan allowances, internal model routing and tool calls make a simple token comparison misleading. Compare successful outcomes and total cost on your own tasks.

Do I need all three subscriptions?

Usually start with one paid plan and test the others through their available free access. Add a second only when a recurring task or integration justifies the extra spend.
